How to enable the touchpad on a laptop

A laptop is a mobile computer that can be equally used effectively both for work at home or in the office, and when traveling, for example, when traveling. The touchpad is one of those ancillary equipment that provides the necessary mobility.

Turning on the touchpad on a laptop: ways

The touchpad is analogous to the usual computer mouse. The installation of this touch panel is explained by the feature of mobile PCs.

At home, when the laptop can be permanently put on the table, most users prefer to use a standard computer mouse. But in this case, the touchpad sometimes makes it difficult to work, so often the question arises: how to enable or disable the touchpad?

The developers were worried about the possibility of disabling this device: in the devices there is a special button or simultaneous pressing of several buttons. Some separate applications or technical means are not needed.

Modern mobile computers have a small groove, which is located in the corner of the touch mouse. This is the on / off key of the control panel on the laptop. Clicking on it 2 times, this device turns on or off. This is quite a convenient feature, although this key is not on all models of laptops.

On the other devices to activate, you must press a combination of the Fn buttons and one of the "F" function keys. The Fn button is usually located on the keyboard in the left corner. It is necessary to determine which specific “F” button can be determined by the characters marked on the keyboard surface, usually indicated in the same color as the Fn button.

Attention! For Sony devices, you can activate controls by pressing the Fn + F1 combination. That is, you only need to press this key combination once to turn on the touchpad. During the reuse of the combination, it will turn off again.

The activation sign of the touchpad is usually depicted as a device touchpad - a rectangle with rounded corners (picture as a "pad"), below which are drawn two small rectangles (similar to mouse buttons) and on the top of the image there is a cross indicating "enable / disable. " But other images of the touch control are possible, it depends on the laptop model and manufacturer.

If, for certain reasons, it does not work in the manner described above to activate the control panel with a special key or a combination of buttons, then this can be done using BIOS settings.

To enter these settings, you must press the F2 or Delete button when the system boots. Most often, when the monitor is turned on, a message appears on which button to press. We must not forget that this message is not on the screen for long. And it is necessary to press the button exactly at the time when the notification appears. Otherwise, to get into the BIOS settings will not work, you need to restart the device.

In the BIOS settings, you need to find the Pointing Device menu. Change the mode to Enabled if you want to turn on the touch panel, or Disabled to turn it off. After you save and exit, the changes will be active.

Do not forget, with the BIOS settings you need to be careful, especially if you do not understand why a certain setting is required.

Reference! There is another way how to find out information regarding the inclusion of the touch panel. For what you can use the manual for a particular model of the device, which in modern laptops most often is not in the form of paper instructions, but in electronic form, and is located on the C drive in the folder "Documentation".

What difficulties may arise

But if the touchpad cannot be activated using the methods described above, then perhaps:

  • the device is broken;
  • or there is no required software, for example, due to reinstalling the OS instead of the native XP, the seven was installed.

How to troubleshoot when turning on the touchpad

It must be remembered that in the “Device Settings” menu the “Shutdown when connecting an external USB mouse” mode is often available. If this option is enabled, the touch panel will not be active if a computer mouse is connected to the mobile PC. If you need to use both the touchpad and the mouse immediately, then this mode must be turned off.

If all the above described methods of turning on the touch panel were tested, and nothing worked, then the device is probably disabled in the BIOS. In this case, to activate the sensor, you must get into the BIOS and turn on the "Internal Pointing Device" mode. Most often this feature is located in the "Advanced" menu.

If everything is also properly configured in the BIOS, in this case there are only two options: there is no necessary software or a broken touch panel.
