But sometimes there is a need to make some repairs to the device - for example, unzipping headphones. In order to carry out this procedure, it is not at all necessary to contact a service center - you will not need special skills or extensive experience. If you carefully study the structure of the headphones and clearly follow all the instructions provided, then even a beginner will cope with the work. What is needed for decoupling and what difficulties may arise during the process? All this you will learn in this article.

Pinout headphone wiring

When searching for information on how to make a wiring of headphones, which may be needed for a variety of purposes, you can come across a word like pinout. What is it?

The pinout is information about the location of the terminals on the headphone jacks in accordance with the accessory diagram. It is with the help of this information that you can carry out the necessary repair of the device, identify the problem place and perform other necessary actions. But first you need to find out what types of connectors are. Consider this question in more detail.

Types of connectors

Headphones can now be connected to a wide variety of devices - these are smartphones, and televisions, and computers, as well as other devices that provide sound reproduction.

Everyone who has such an accessory knows the round connector where the plug is inserted. But not everyone pays attention to the fact that such connectors come in three different sizes:

  • 6.25 mm;
  • 3.5 mm
  • 2.5 mm.

According to the size they are called: big jack, mini jack and micro jack. It comes from the English word jack, which translates as a nest. Easy to memorize and pronounce the name passed into the Russian language and now it is used by the majority of users and masters, despite the fact that each of these connectors has its own separate name, consisting of an abbreviation.

Big jack is used more in a professional music environment - for microphones and other similar units. In all smartphones and most household appliances dominated by a mini-jack. It is convenient in size and fits even on small phones. Micro-Jack is familiar to the owners of music players.

Mini-jack connectors are divided into three types: two. three and four contact. The first option is practically not used for many years, only in very outdated models. Three-contact headphones are distinguished by the presence of separate channels for each speaker and one combined. But the four contact models also have a channel for the microphone.

Headphone wiring

In order to make any repair headphones, for which you want to disassemble them, you need a circuit. The wiring diagram for the various connectors is different, so you should be as careful as possible so as not to confuse the jack.

The scheme can be found on the Internet or in a thematic magazine.

IMPORTANT. Please note that without such a picture and knowledge of the internal device, it will not be possible to perform the pinout correctly. Therefore, it is important to study everything in advance and understand the principle of the headphones.

Headphone wiring

In order to make the necessary manipulations on different headphone jacks, it will take a little effort and information.

On the jack jack 2,5 and 3,5

In ordinary devices, three cables - this plug is called the abbreviation TRS, which distinguishes it from the headset. It is important to know the sequence from tip to wire:

  • left speaker;
  • right speaker;
  • common speaker

If there are three wires, then two of them are usually combined - you need to choose them by the same color. It is important not to make a mistake and connect exactly those cables that are in harmony with each other.

Wiring in this case is as simple as possible. Wires join the right places for this, which are very easy to determine intuitively.

IMPORTANT. Please note that the sequence on connectors 2.5 and 3.5 is absolutely identical. Therefore, knowing the necessary information about one, you can safely use them to work with another plug, which differs exclusively in size.

On mini-USB and micro-USB plugs

Such plugs as mini-USB and micro-USB are used in separate models of phones. Most often these are headset-style models - with a built-in microphone. But sometimes you can connect in this way even the most ordinary headphones to listen to music or watch an interesting video.

In such inputs, as in the past case, the pinout is absolutely identical. You need to know that they have 5 outputs, but you do not need to solder the wires to each of them.

The numbering, which is necessary for work, is from right to left on the opposite side of the cable connection. The wires should be soldered to the first - common, the third - the right channel, and the fourth - the left channel.

Wiring in the headset

Headphones that have a built-in microphone are different from other internal devices. Consider some wiring options for the headset.

Plug 3.5

Such plugs are called another abbreviation - TRRS. And here there are two different desoldering options - OMTP and CTIA.

If you connect an accessory of the wrong type, then the headphones will not reproduce sound correctly, and the microphone will completely mute. The difference is in connecting the microphone and common wire, which are connected to 3 and 4 cables.

To USB plugs

In cases where the headphones are connected using USB connectors, it is also important to understand the sequence of all wires present there.

In the mini-USB or micro-USB connectors, the sequence on the connection side is:

  • common wire;
  • microphone and device control buttons;
  • right speaker;
  • left speaker;
  • not connected cable.

In the case where the plug does not fit the correct connector, a conductor is used. It is easy to do it yourself, even without special skills in this area.

Now you know what the pinout and pinout of headphones is, why this information may be needed and how the different types of connectors differ from each other. If you know how to solder wires to each type of headphones and plugs, then you can easily make any necessary changes with your existing device. For example, it’s very easy to turn an old headset that you no longer use into a temporary microphone for your computer if you need to urgently call someone.

In addition, in this way, headphones are repaired, the sound of which suddenly became deaf or rustled. Perhaps the problem lies not in mechanical damage, but somewhere in the internal structure of the accessory. Remember that if your headphones are broken, it is not at all necessary to immediately run to the store for new ones or turn to professionals for expensive help - you can easily find the cause of the problem and fix it yourself, saving not only a decent amount of money, but also time.
